Target Recalls Hand-Held Air Misters Due to Injury Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Air Mister

Units: About 168,000

Importer: Target Corp., of Minneapolis, Minn.

Hazard: The Air Mister can shatter during use, posing an injury hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Target has received three reports of incidents of misters shattering, including one in which a consumer received lacerations.

Description: The recall is for hand-held devices designed to spray a mist for personal cooling. The Air Misters are 8 inches tall and hold 2 ounces of water at the Fill line. They are clear plastic cylinders with colored tops and bases. The tops and bases come in black, blue, green and pink. A nylon carrying strap is attached to the tops. Instructions for use are written in white lettering on the outside of the clear plastic cylinder.

Sold exclusively at: Target stores nationwide from February 2012 to May 2012 for approximately $2.50.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled misters and return them to any Target store for a full refund.
