FLO Cycling Recalls Rim Tape Due to Fall Hazard

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Bicycle Wheel Rim Tape

Units: About 800

Importer: FLO Cycling LLC of Las Vegas

Hazard: The rim tape can fail and break under pressure. When this happens, the inner tube of the bicycle can puncture or burst. This poses a fall hazard to the rider.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received four reports of exploding inner tubes and flat tires. No injuries were reported.

Description: The rim tape is a yellow plastic strip that was provided for free with the purchase of FLO 60, FLO 90 and FLO DISC wheels. The number 700X18 A/V is printed on the tape. The serial number is located either on the wheel rim under the tube or on the outer edge of the disc wheel. The following serial numbers are included in this recall:

Sold exclusively at: FLO Cycling’s website from May 2012 through July 2012 with the purchase of FLO wheels. The wheels cost between $375 and $700.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should contact FLO Cycling to receive a $5 refund for each wheel purchased. The firm is contacting consumers who purchased wheels with the recalled rim tape directly.
